Syracuse Driveways is a concrete driveway and flatwork contractor working in Syracuse, NY and the towns around it, Clay, Liverpool, Cicero, Baldwinsville, Fayetteville, DeWitt, Camillus and the rest of Onondaga County. We install, replace, repair and seal concrete driveways, aprons, walkways and steps, and we build them for a climate that tears up slabs poured to a warmer-state standard: roughly 115 inches of lake-effect snow a year, road salt on the surface from November to April, and a frost line that reaches about 42 inches down.

What we actually do

Six things, and we'll tell you which one you need before you spend money on the wrong one:

  • Concrete driveway installation
  • Driveway replacement and removal of the old slab
  • Stamped and decorative concrete
  • Concrete repair and slab leveling
  • Driveway sealing
  • Aprons, walkways and steps

We don't do everything. We pour and finish concrete flatwork for residential driveways, and that's it. That focus is the reason the details below get done the way they do.

What's in a driveway we pour

The base. We dig to below the frost line and compact in lifts, not scrape four inches, dump gravel and call it a base. At 42 inches of frost depth, a shallow base is the difference between a slab that stays put and one that heaves, cracks along the joints and spalls at the edges every March.

The mix. Air-entrained 4,000 psi concrete. The entrained air pockets give freezing water somewhere to expand into, which is what lets the slab handle road salt and freeze-thaw cycles instead of scaling off at the surface.

The joints. Control joints cut on a plan, spaced to the slab's thickness and shape, not wherever the saw stop. Joints in the wrong place do nothing, the concrete cracks where it wants to, usually across the middle of a panel.

The finish and the schedule. Proper slope away from the garage, a broom or decorative finish that keeps grip when it's wet, and a sealing schedule you can actually keep up with. Sealing a concrete driveway every few years is most of the difference between a driveway that lasts thirty years and one that looks tired at eight.

The permit. A new driveway cut or a right-of-way apron usually needs a permit from the City of Syracuse or the town you're in, and the apron has to match the municipal spec. We handle that paperwork as part of the job.

What it typically costs

Real ranges for work in the Syracuse area:

  • Concrete driveway installation: $6,500–$14,000
  • Driveway replacement and removal: $8,000–$16,000
  • Stamped and decorative concrete: $9,000–$20,000
  • Concrete repair and slab leveling: $400–$2,500
  • Aprons, walkways and steps: $1,500–$6,000
  • Driveway sealing: $250–$900

Those are typical ranges, not quotes. The final cost varies a lot depending on job size, scope, and site conditions, square footage, how much old concrete has to come out, how deep the excavation goes on your lot, slope, drainage, whether the apron falls under a right-of-way permit, and what the finish is. A 400-square-foot single-car apron in Geddes and a 1,200-foot replacement in Cicero with a tear-out are not the same job at any price per square foot.

How a project runs

1. Look at it in person. We measure, check the existing slab and base, and look at where water goes. No price over the phone.

2. Write it down. Scope, thickness, mix, joint layout, what happens to the old concrete, and the price. If a repair beats a replacement, that goes in writing too, with the reason.

3. Pull the permit for the driveway cut or apron if one's required.

4. Tear out and excavate to the frost depth, haul the old material, and compact the base in lifts.

5. Form, pour, finish, cut joints while the concrete is at the right hardness.

6. Cure and clean up, then give you the sealing timeline for your slab.

Why people call us

Because the failure they're looking at is almost always one of three things: a base dug for cheap, concrete without air entrainment, or joints cut on a whim. We fix the cause, not just the crack.

And we'll tell you when not to spend. A slab with life left in it gets leveled, patched and sealed, sometimes for a few hundred dollars, instead of replaced for five figures. When replacement is the honest answer, you'll get that in writing too, with the reasoning.

Where we work

Syracuse and the surrounding towns: Clay, Cicero, Liverpool, Salina, Geddes, Camillus, Marcellus, Skaneateles, Manlius, Fayetteville, DeWitt, East Syracuse, Baldwinsville, North Syracuse and the villages in between. Same frost depth, same salt, same town permit process, we've been through all of them.
